TX Family Project exposed for false attack mailer

According to my opponent (and his billionaire backers), if you don’t succeed at first, lie, lie again.

That's the latest tactic features another fake news attack piece filling mailboxes across the district. It's the same attack with my head photoshopped onto an LGBTQ activist's body. The same caricature they tried to paint during the primary.

While my son laughs at these mailers because it appears I have lost so much weight — they always use a skinny body to photoshop my head onto — I have constituents who have reached out asking about the story behind the attacks. Here are a few fast facts to clear up any confusion:

  • FACT: The mailer cites HR 85, which never received a vote in the Texas House. Why? Because the author withdrew the resolution.

  • FACT: I worked with other Republican lawmakers for many weeks to keep the resolution from coming to the floor. It was ultimately approved to be placed on a calendar for a floor vote.

  • FACT: The mailer is citing my vote as a member of the Resolutions Committee on setting a calendar that included HR 85. A calendar committee vote is not a vote on substance but rather on the schedule for floor activities. A vote in the Resolutions Calendar Committee is no different than a vote in the Local and Consent Committee or the Calendars Committee. They are votes on an agenda, and the substance of those measures meets the fate of the House.

  • FACT: Resolutions have no effect on state law and are celebrations or recognitions of any person, place, or organization across the state that a member chooses to recognize.

The same organization has attempted to attack me for votes on other resolutions (which the House Journal shows a record of my opposing). Despite all the facts, these politically motivated organizations like Texas Family Projects are all funded by the same people backing my opponent.

He continues to promote the BIG LIE that he is not behind these attacks. However, his contributions are directly tied to the organization that funds both Andy's campaign and these 501(c)4 non-profits used as attack dogs in these races and throughout the legislative process.

Why isn't anything done about this? Because the Supreme Court has upheld that the best antidote to fake news and these political attacks is more free speech. That's why I am fighting these lies here on my website and through every platform available.

If you are a voter in House District 64, you can fight these lies by investing in my campaign with your dollars and/or voting in this upcoming Republican Primary Runoff. Early Voting is May 20th-May 24th. Election Day is Tuesday, May 28th.
