Texas Legislature is picking up speed

It's been a busy couple of weeks in Austin!

Last week, we kicked off with a visit from Leadership Decatur, followed by Wise County Day at the Capitol. I laid out my first bill in committee, which seeks to rein in out-of-control city councils operating outside their statutory authority. The week ended with the bill filing deadline – and 60th Legislative Day – which means that policy debates are heating up in committees and will soon start coming to the House Floor.

Below, I've put together a brief summary of some of the bills I have filed this session. They take on important issues, like stopping sexual grooming in our schools, giving local governments tools to enhance tourism, and strengthening public safety laws. Two bills were filed in response to the horrific tragedy that took the life of young Athena Strand and our efforts to further protect Texas children.

In addition to these bills, I will sign onto significant legislation that will better shape our state. This includes policies to provide property tax relief, appraisal reform, strengthen border security, and empower parents.

Thank you to all the constituents who have emailed, called, or stopped by the Capitol office to discuss policies that will affect their lives. As a member of the subcommittee on Article II – Healthcare funding – I have already taken votes to support programs that will directly improve the lives of the people I serve.

The work continues as we look ahead to Denton County Day at the Capitol on March 22nd. God bless y'all and God Bless Texas!
