Dr. Stucky refutes censure resolution

In a written response to Wise County Republican County Executive Committee, Stucky cautions against rigging the system with false accusations

SANGER, Texas (November 9, 2023) – Today, Dr. Lynn Stucky (R-Sanger) submitted his written response to the Wise County GOP Chairman Mike Drury and the County Executive Committee (CEC) on its draft resolution of censure. In the resolution, the committee falsely claims Dr. Stucky voted against the Republican party platform.

This resolution is the latest example of Wise County GOP officials spreading false information about Dr. Stucky’s record. The draft resolution is blatant misinformation and an attempt to manipulate Republican voters in Wise County to support their chosen candidate. That much is proven by the Wise County GOP announcing plans to host a debate with “Wise County Conservatives,” a group co-founded by Dr. Stucky's opponent, operated by his wife, and funded by Defend Texas Liberty PAC, an organization that spent tens of thousands of dollars in 2022 falsely attacking Dr. Stucky’s record.

Dr. Stucky offered the following statement for the public, who will largely not be in attendance for Thursday’s Wise County GOP CEC meeting:

“Mr. Drury, I am a conservative Republican who has lived, worked, and raised my family in Texas House District 64 for the past 40 years. The values of faith, family, and freedom are integral to who I am as a person, why I am a member of the Republican Party, and guide the decisions I make as a Representative.

For the past four elections, I have been selected as our party’s nominee by the majority of Republican voters in our party primaries, having stood on my record before them and presented who I am, what I stand for, and how I voted. Your censure resolution alleges six so-called violations upon which you seek to justify this blatant disregard for the will of our primary voters, using your position to intimidate me while undermining the integrity and fairness of our party processes.

"The proposed censure you have provided is based on claims that misinterpret legislation or have nothing to do with the party platform. After subjecting your censure resolution to the measure of objective truth, I believe your underlying motive becomes crystal clear. This is not about the party platform or Republican values at all, but rather a shameful attempt to place your finger on the scale and substitute your personal preferences for the will of the voters. It can best be described as a 'smoke-filled back room' arrangement among a handful of party leaders seeking to rig the system to favor their preferred candidate. It is disingenuous, and it is wrong.”

On October 23rd, Dr. Stucky received an email from Chairman Drury in his state office account notifying him of the proposed resolution and invitation to speak at the November 9th CEC meeting.  Under Rule 44, the committee must invite the officeholder to the meeting and be provided time to speak. Dr. Stucky has a previously scheduled family engagement and will be unavailable for the meeting. He has asked that the letter be read in full for the record at Thursday’s meeting.
