Pro-Gun Champion: Setting the Record Straight
Fellow Texans,
As we approach the upcoming primary election runoff, I must address the recent attacks on my pro-Second Amendment record. It's disheartening to see misleading information circulated about my stance on firearm legislation, especially when my dedication to upholding our constitutional rights is unwavering.
These lies are funded by groups supporting my opponent, Andy Hopper. The mailpieces paid for by Make Liberty Win, Texas Gun Rights, and Texans United for a Conservative Majority are part of a national effort to smear Republicans who have effectively delivered for Texas. During the legislative session, these groups and their paid advocates worked against pro-Second Amendment organizations to set up these attacks.
Let's set the record straight. House Bill 4839 and Senate Bill 728, both of which I supported, have been misrepresented by political opponents. These bills were not assaults on our Second Amendment rights but rather crucial measures to enhance public safety while safeguarding our freedoms.
House Bill 4839 aimed to address a concerning loophole in current legislation. It sought to prevent individuals from evading weapons charges by unlawfully carrying firearms in vehicles not owned by them. Contrary to the false narratives being spread, this bill did not restrict lawful gun owners but rather closed a legal gap to ensure that those who violate the law are held accountable. Notably, the bill garnered support from Open Carry Texas, a prominent pro-Second Amendment advocacy group, recognizing its alignment with our shared goal of responsible firearm ownership.
Senate Bill 728, another piece of legislation I proudly endorsed, focused on improving the background check process to keep firearms out of the hands of individuals with disqualifying mental health records. By aligning state law with federal standards, SB 728 aimed to strengthen our existing systems and enhance public safety measures without infringing on the rights of law-abiding citizens. It received strong support from key figures such as Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and Gov. Greg Abbott, underscoring its importance in our ongoing efforts to protect our communities.
It's crucial to understand that supporting these bills does not equate to compromising our Second Amendment rights. As a staunch defender of our constitutional freedoms, I believe in responsible gun ownership while prioritizing public safety. These measures were carefully crafted to balance preserving our rights and ensuring the well-being of all Texans.
That's why the NRA and the Texas State Rifle Association endorse me. I have fought for and delivered essential victories, including making Constitutional Carry the law of the land. You can read more about the bills I have passed to strengthen your right to protect yourself, your family, and your property.
In conclusion, I would like to assure my constituents that my commitment to upholding our Second Amendment rights is steadfast. The attacks on my record are baseless and driven by political agendas aimed at sowing division. As your representative, I will continue to champion legislation that strengthens our communities, protects our freedoms, and upholds the values we hold dear.
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Dr. Lynn Stucky
