Join us for the Lost Battalion Memorial Highway Designation

DECATUR – The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will officially unveil the Lost Battalion Memorial Highway designation signs at a ceremony starting 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024, at the Weatherford College Wise County. State Representative Dr. Lynn Stucky, state Senator Tan Parker, Wise County Judge JD Clark, and other elected officials will be highlighted speakers at the ceremony.

H.B. 3099 was jointly authored by state Rep. Stucky and David Spiller (R-Jacksboro) and sponsored by Sen. Parker. The bill authorized the designation of US 380 from Decatur to Jacksboro as the Lost Battalion Memorial Highway by the Texas Department of Transportation.

"I want to first thank everyone from the Wise and Jack County historical societies, the Lost Battalion Association, the local elected officials who came to Austin to testify, all the veterans who supported this effort, and the private donors who funded the manufacturing and installation of these signs," said Dr. Stucky, who authored the enabling legislation (HB 3099). "We have a great surprise in store for this designation, thanks to our partners at TxDOT."

Sen. Parker was the sponsor of HB 3099 in the Senate and played a vital role in making this event possible.

"We were honored to carry this legislation, cementing the legacy of the lost battalion, and it's rewarding to see it come to fruition in our first term representing Wise County," Sen. Parker said. "This designation is more than just naming a highway; it will be a daily reminder of the legacy of those who came before and made the ultimate sacrifice for the liberty and prosperity we enjoy today."

The ceremony will be hosted in the first-floor lecture hall at the Weatherford College Wise County campus – 5180 US-380, Bridgeport, TX 76426. The Wise County Veterans Group will be on hand to post the colors. The event is open to the public, and the media can interview speakers and attendees following the ceremony.
